Impact Week 2019!
HELP! This Sunday, we will be talking about addiction. We welcome guest speaker, Jamie Edwards, the founder and executive director of The Refuge Center of Houston. The Refuge provides family peer support services, faith-based counseling, and spiritual care and direction. In addition to her private practice, she also engages the recovery community through blogging, workshops, training and advocacy services. As the mother of a heroin addict, Jamie knows firsthand the trauma, heartache, shame, and fear that the disease of addiction can generate. Therefore, she strives to provide a voice and a space for families to engage in the recovery process as they seek to recover, rebuild, and be restored. Want to learn more about our speakers, or get resources for getting help? Visit gdlc.org/help
This Sunday, in week 2 of our series, we will be talking about abuse. We will hear from Sharon Bayus, a licensed professional counselor and certified clinical supervisor. Sharon is the founder, President and CEO of, Innovative Alternatives, Inc. a nonprofit agency with the mission of ‘Finding solutions to life’s most difficult people problems, through mediation, counseling and training’.
Our brother in Christ, Pastor Al Scholz, was called home to be with our Lord on July 1, 2019, five days prior to completing 67 years of service as a commissioned and ordained pastor in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. A visitation will be held at Gloria Dei on Saturday, July 6 in the Chapel from 12-3pm. A memorial service will be held at Gloria Dei on Sunday, July 7 at 3pm in the Worship Center, with a reception to follow in the Life Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, memo: Endowment Fund. Jesus said..."I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live." John 11:25
This 4-week series starts this Sunday. We will dive into abuse, addiction, and suicide, and the struggles that any of us could be experiencing, as well as the redemption and restoration Jesus can bring into any situation. Each week will not be the end-all/be-all of the conversation, but a starting point, and for some, a healing point for this struggle in their life.
It is with hope in the promise of the resurrection, and the presence and peace that only comes in Jesus, that we share with you that Pastor Al Scholz was lovingly received into the arms of Jesus today. Details of funeral arrangements will be forthcoming after the family has had time to work with all involved. Once details are known, we will share them as soon as possible. Meanwhile, please continue to keep Pastor Al's family in your prayers as they grieve with hope in Jesus. Jesus said..."I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live." John 11:25

New sermon series starts tomorrow! We often don't know what to think about the world we are living in and we aren't sure what to expect next. The phrase "end times" is scary for a lot of us, but it doesn't have to be! This 3-week series will focus on the hope Jesus promises us in scripture, so join us as we learn how to reframe our thinking of "end times."
This Sunday, we continue our sermon series, with the parable of the Good Samaritan. We'll see you at 8, 9:30 or 11am!
Join us this weekend for Easter celebrations and a fantastic Easter Egg Hunt! Share it with your friends! #easteregghunt #easter #holyweek

Tonight, Concordia Seminary, St. Louis assigned candidates for their first "call." This impressive setting is when 4th year seminarians learn where they have been placed for their first assignment/"call." Gloria Dei extended a "call" to Seminarian Robert Bailey as Associate Pastor/Church Planter and we have been eagerly awaiting the news of his placement. We are thrilled to announce that, at tonight's call service, Robert was placed at Gloria Dei! We praise God for His provision and faithfulness, and we ask that you join us in praying for Robert, as he prepares to move to Texas and begin a new chapter with us. See the video clip below for the official announcement. #callday2017
